Part 1. Who am I?
This is Eva, who has worked in Google Search Engine Optimization for about 2 years. During this time, I work hard to master all the SEO processes and knowledge frames. And my blog aims to share some findings and thoughts about my work. It can both help me summarize my career and inspire those who are in the same field as me. Let’s begin with one small question: How many tests does Google need to perform every year? Some of you will be unfamiliar with the question because maybe you have never paid attention to the Google snippet tests. Never mind! Once you have the awareness that Google will conduct about 400,000 search quality experiments and 20,000 real-time traffic experiments, you will begin to notice the changes. Besides, 0.1% of Google users will be chosen to join the test sample container.

Then let’s come to: What are the metrics Google uses to measure the performance of Google snippet tests? Maybe we can list a few:
1. What do people click?
2. How many search queries are satisfied?
3. How many search queries cannot be satisfied?
4. How long does it take for users to click a result?
To better understand Google tests, we can also list previous tests for your reference.
Check the main image test. When users click the small image icon, the article images will show to better illustrate the article topic.
Now we can go to the Google category test. In the mobile category test, Google tends to divide search results into shopping, nearby stories, images, videos, etc.
Google broadens the search results to better satisfy consumers’ search intent. It aims to gain more and more users and optimize itself to be the largest search engine in the world.
Well, you have a full understanding of Google snippet tests right now. Then return to our main topic today: what is an expandable tab snippet test?
Compared with common search results, expandable tab search results add switchable tabs to expand the search result. When users can see more details in the search result, it can help them better identify whether the page has the answer they want or not.
Google began its test in August 2021. It expanded the experiment in Nov 2021. And the test lasts till now.
From the provided 16 Twitter samples, we can see the expandable snippet carousel experiment covers varieties of industries, from software, finance, and marketing to wiki. It can appear at the top, bottom, and middle of the SERPs casually. The following are the summarized features based on our observation:
1. The tab is switchable.
2. The tab topics automatically generate from h2 or h3 topics.
3. The length is between 140-200 characters mostly.
4. The crawl-able meta description is related to user search queries.
5. The content types can be tutorial, top list, information, or else.
This article aims to help you better understand the Google snippet test and expandable tab carousel test to some extent. Hope you have gotten some insights from the blog.
